Linux Support Too!

September 30th, 2007 · 5 Comments

There are bugs in the 9,0,48,0 release version of the Adobe Flash Player for Linux (x86) that prevent rsizr from loading images. If you’re a Linux user, please manually upgrade to the latest Flash Player prerelease version (at least 9,0,60) and everything should work properly. Click here to see the Adobe Flash Player 9 Update page. Or, download the latest version directly:

Download Plugin for Linux x86 (version 9,0,64, TAR.GZ, 2.88 MB)
Download Plugin for Linux x86 (version 9,0,64, RPM, 2.88 MB)

Please let us know if you continue to have trouble using rsizr on Linux.

Will, thanks for your support! I’ll get the upgrade done, hopefully soon, and report back.

Unfortunately the latest version of Flash 9 is not available for my Nokia Linux tablet (it has Flash 9, just not the latest). Also, there is no flash at all for any of the (numerous) non-x86 platforms that Linux is run on.

Imho everyone who makes cool things like this using flash is contributing a little bit to the huge problem of the web becoming a less platform-neutral open environment.

I wish I could try your app, but I cannot because I’m using Linux on an old iBook and the people at Adobe do not care about that platform. I hope you will consider making a version of this application that does not require a despotic company’s proprietary runtime. Until then, thanks anyway!

Works for me! Love it. Thanks!

    Awesome.

@Finite — get over your hypocritical self. Anyone using a Nokia and a Mac should be complaining about despotic companies’ and their proprietary hardware lock-in — not about the the lack of support from software developers.

Jaykul, I hear what you’re saying and I also complain about Nokia and Apple being despots, but they’re not nearly as bad as Adobe imo. I can use their hardware to browse most of the web, and Adobe flash is responsible for most of what I cannot see. I do have Flash, and it works sometimes, but it isn’t just because I’m use some non-Intel-compatible computers that I think people shouldn’t make things in Flash. Even on my device that has it, I leave it off when I don’t specifically need it, because Flash is slow and exploitibly buggy and mostly used for advertising anyway. Please boycott Flash!
